Overwhelming cravings to eat sugary and unhealthy foods are a common characteristic with emotional eating. That chatter in your mind is saying you want the junk food even though your body is saying NO and doesn’t need it. Here are 3 things you can do to effectively to reduce your cravings.
1.Get enough sleep:Many of us do not get adequate sleep at night. Lack of sleep does not do a mind or body good and can lead to emotional eating. When we don’t get enough restful sleep our body our body looks for quick energy fixes in the form of junk food. Often in the form of sugary snacks to increase those energy levels. This will give you a quick burst of energy followed by a sugar crash. Make sure you get enough sleep every night and rest when you feel tired. When you are wll rested you can have more focus, feel more refreshed and be able to handle your emotions better too.
2.Be aware of your cravings: One of the best things you can do is recognize when a craving is a craving. When you do you are more able to say no to them. If your not sure if it is a craving wait for 30 minutes and see if it passes. You can pre-occupy your mind by doing things like going for a walk, call a friend or have a bath. When you can distract yourself more often than not you may find your craving will go away. Often when a craving hits we are dehydrated. Try drinking water because it can trick your body into thinking it is satisfying a craving.
3.Control blood sugars:Our moods are effected by drops in blood sugar so it’s imprtant to manage this as well as we can. Simple carbs and sugars release energy quickly and cause drops in blood sugar. Fiber and protein on the other hand are released by the body at a sloer rate making our energy levels more sustained and blood sugar levels not to spike. You can keep your blood sugar levels in check by eaitng natural sugars like fruits and veggies.
